Retreatants for the recent Seeing With the Eyes of St. Francis Retreat opened their hearts to St. Francis' favorite devotions to know the will of God. Franciscan Sister Anne Marie Lom facilitated the weekend at the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity Motherhouse, Manitowoc, WI. Find here two sources that were highlighted.
Because the stations were prayed using our own Sister Victoria Masil's original, inlaid, wooden, bas-relief paintings, retreatants were helped by visually seeing St. Francis in each stop of the journey. These are found displayed in St. Mary Chapel. A special station book that walks through each traditional scene invites all to be mindful of our part in Jesus' sufferings and death.
St. Francis' Office of the Passion
Reflection on the Passion of Jesus continued with the small red book entitled The Geste of the Passion. It outlines St. Francis' Little Office, a series of hymns, psalms, antiphon or a dismissal prayer. It is called a geste, because it extols the valor and great deeds of a hero, such as King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table. For Francis, the texts refer to Jesus, the Herald of the Great King.
Conferences were enhanced by participant sharing. Time was offered for one on one spiritual direction for those who desired additional assistance.
