Becoming a Sister or Nun Young Adult Discernment Group Zoom

Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity have heard a significant number of young adult women say they have no one to talk to regarding discerning a call to be a nun or Sister. St. Francis was all about the heart of the matter. We are, too. Indeed, we want to be there especially to help anyone discerning a call to be a Franciscan Sister. This concern set us on a journey of discovery to provide a format where peer conversations with others of young adult age is possible.

First, we decided on a Zoom gathering. It allows for Spirit-led discerners from across the nation to meet each other. Next, Spiritual Director Sister Anne Marie after studying the days and times young women who are her clients chose for spiritual direction, selected a Thursday evening at 6:30 PM CST. It is not on the weekend. It is later in the day.

Another consideration was building group comfort with each other. At homeness usually comes from meeting someone more than once. Right now, we are offering the Zoom group 4 times. Our hope is that individuals grow in trust and deeper sharing.

What can I expect to happen in the weekly sessions?

You can expect reflections on the upcoming Weekend Gospel, prompt questions for discussions having a discernment focus, a time of social and spiritual sharing. The Zoom session will close with Liturgy of the Hours, Night Prayer. The entire group session is set for approximately 1 ½ hours each session for 4 weeks. Spiritual Director Sister Anne Marie will provide topics for discussion and time for socializing via breakout rooms. Sister Pam Biehl will close each evening with a Night Prayer.

Sister Anne Marie will take time to meet group members ahead of time to ensure the experience is one that fits each person’s desire and build healthy group sharing.

Dates are: November 7, 14, 21 and December 5 at 6:30 CST.
